Saving a YouTube video, step by step
- On YouTube, press Share under the video and choose Copy, or copy the address from your browser.
- Paste the link into the field at the top and press Download.
- Give it a moment while the list of files loads.
- Pick a resolution or an audio-only file and save it.
Things to know
Each YouTube video has its own set of files. The list you see after pasting a link is the real list for that video, so resolutions differ from video to video, and the highest ones are not always present.
Regular links, youtu.be short links and Share-menu links are accepted. Live streams, members-only content, age-restricted videos, and private or removed videos cannot be fetched.
YouTube’s terms usually forbid downloading unless the service provides a download option. Limit use to your own uploads, content under a licence that permits it, or videos you have permission to keep.

How do I pick a quality?
Choose from the list shown after the link is read. Bigger resolutions make bigger files that take longer to save.
Is there an audio-only choice?
When one is available it appears among the formats. Select it instead of a video resolution.
Do I need extra software?
No. A normal browser is enough on a phone, tablet or computer.
Why was my video rejected?
Private, members-only, age-restricted, live and deleted videos are not supported, and region locks can block loading.
Can I download any YouTube video?
